Building a New Generation of Leaders in Egypt
Leadership and management training is an essential ingredient in any strategy aimed at bringing about organizational change to strengthen health services. Health Systems 20/20, in collaboration with the Egyptian Ministry of Health (MOH), recently announced plans to establish a “Leadership Academy” as a sustainable Egyptian institution to build management capacities within the public health care system. Leading MOH officials and health experts gathered in Cairo in January for an orientation session to launch plans for the Academy.

More...Consensus on Workforce Standards for Hospitals in Egypt
One of the key challenges facing the Ministry of Health (MOH) in its reform efforts is ensuring that Egypt has the right human capacities and workforce in place to roll out and sustain reforms.
To address this issue, the MOH and Health Systems 20/20 brought together providers from MOH hospitals, university professors, and MOH representatives for a four-day “Expert Opinion Workshop for Setting Hospital Workforce Standards” in March 2009 to reach consensus on a series of workforce standards for hospitals.

More...National Health Accounts Used to Expand Access to Health Care in Kenya
Speaking at the March 27th launch of the third round of National Health Accounts (NHA) in Kenya, the Honorable Prof Anyang’ Nyong’o, Minister of Medical Services, noted that although household expenditure on health services in Kenya has declined, the current levels are too high and present a barrier to accessing health care services for poor households. “I will raise this issue with the government to ensure that more resources are allocated to the health sector and we are seen to be moving towards the Abuja target” stated the Minister.
